Today we welcome Sleaford who are unbeaten all season. With no Ben or Oliver, Steve has had to give a number of players a new starting position today. Frazer & Josh K start the game as subs. We kick off and make a positive start; good pressure puts Sleaford back in their half. Sleaford have a promising attack cleared by an alert Kyle E, extra covering by Ross ensures the danger is cleared up field where Ian plays a quick ball for Jack F to run onto, but the Sleaford defence clear well. Sam and Jack Mc are working well ensuring we keep Sleaford under pressure. Ryan is busy get involved in the game and makes a couple of good tackles, but Sleaford hit us on the break, but Nathan is alert and make a fine save. Kyle S is working hard, covering a lot of ground. Sleaford then have a spell and put us under some real pressure, good solid defending and tracking back by all our midfield ensure we stand firm. This spell for Sleaford last for the middle part of the half, but our lads deal with it exceptionally well, and they finish the latter part of the half strongly. We then create the best chance of the half, good work by Curtis down the right side enables him to cross to Jack F who has found space in the centre, the ball comes to Jack, he hits it first time shot across the keeper, but the keeper dives at full stretch to make a good save. The lads continue to press well and the half ends with both levels at 0-0. Second Half. After an excellent team performance in the first half, we are hit by a sucker punch early in the second, we fail to clear the ball and a looping shot by the Sleaford striker is scored. 0-1. this goal does not affect the lads; they continue to press the game to Sleaford. Our work rate over recent weeks has gained momentum, but if one thing is missing today is the ability to make progressive passing movements. This is causing a lot of our promising attacks to break down early. One special bit of play was between Ross and Ian, who played a progressive one, two which ended with a good cross by Ian, but the cross was cleared by the defence. Sleaford continue to press as a team, and score again when we fail to clear a dangerous ball. 0-2. Heads up and still playing well, the lads push forward and win a corner, Ian takes an out swinging corner that is "dummied" by Kyle S, this confuses the Sleaforrd defence, and the ball is hit in their own goal. 1-2. I would normally say that this puts us back in the game, but today the lads performance ensures that we were never out of it. Another Sleaford attack is not cleared, and they score again. 1-3. the score line today does not reflect the lads overall performance. If we play with this commitment we are not far off the mark. Match Summary: Unlucky at time today, need to take chances in evenly contested games, as chances are few to create. But overall a good team performance. MOM: Josh W for excellent reading of the game and showing a good turn of pace when required. Ian's thought of the day: "if you make the right decision, it’s normally going to be the correct one". Thanks for reading, take care, Ian. |
