The pitch today in places is like a bog, after consultation with the managers, the Ref says it’s fit and playable. Today we have no Kyle Scott or Jack McCallum, Frazer & Ian start as subs. The game starts off steady for both teams; both have early exchanges, but Ruston's run onto a ball over the top of our defence and score with only 4 minutes played. 1.0. After the restart Ruston's continue to press, Ryan makes a strong tackle and the ball is cleared by Josh K. Jack F then makes a strong run and cross, but this is cut out by the keeper. The keeper kicks a long ball up field, it bounces over our defence and again the striker is there to score past the diving Nathan. 2.0. We continue to try and press the game to Ruston's, Jack F crosses a ball across the box, Josh W hits a first time shot but is tipped over the bar by the keeper. Another cross by Jack F is met by the head of Ben, he heads the ball well, but it strikes the underside of the bar and is collected by the keeper. Just when we seem to be getting back into the game we are hit again, this time indecision by our defence allows there striker time to pick his spot and score. 3.0. We restart the game and push again. We work the ball out wide to Jack F who makes a strong run, cuts in and fires a strong shot at the near post to score. 3.1. Back in the game we now look organised and score again just before half time, when Jack F crosses a ball across Ruston's penalty box, Josh W runs onto the ball and shoots the ball into the net. 3.2. Second Half. Back in the game, and looking good we start the second half having to defend, Oliver shows his strength to clear a dangerous attack. Ross makes a timely tackle and Curtis makes an excellent covering clearance. We then have a break down the right, Ian makes a strong run to the edge of the box, the keeper comes out, and Ian rounds the keeper and scores. 3.3. Back on equal terms, and well in the game we are unfortunate when again we are indicicive in defence, Ross tries to clear a loose ball, but unfortunately it goes just the wrong side of the post and into our net. 4.3. Unfortunate indeed, as this goal seems to lift Ruston's. They push hard, putting under increased pressure, good covering work by Curtis, and a couple of fine saves by Nathan keeps our hopes alive. Ruston's win a corner, the corner comes into our box, the ball is not cleared and the striker hits it into goal to score as we watch. Painful. 5.3. All our hard work undone again. We restart again, and create a good attack, Ian plays an early ball through for Ben to run onto, Ben shoots, but his shot goes just wide of the post. We then win a corner, Ian takes it and it is met at the far post by Jack F, but his shot goes wide. In the last minute of the game, Ruston's have a break, Oliver shows good strength in our penalty area, but the player goes down and the ref awards a penalty. The striker steps up, shoots, but Nathan pulls off a fine save, the follow up is then struck over the bar by the advancing forward. The game is restarted, but the final whistle blows shortly after. Match Summary: Punished hard for individual errors in a game that we competed evenly in, we showed great character to level the score after being 3.0 down. In general, a good effort by all the lads, but must cut out the errors. MOM: Nathan, for keeping us in the game with some fine goalkeeping, and an excellent penalty save. Ian's thought of the day: When they first installed all-seater stadiums, everyone thought that the fans would not stand for it!!. |
