After a 6 week layoff due to adverse weather, the lads will have to quickly blow away any cob webs as we play Gainsborough in the county cup. Victory will get us to the final eight, which will be a fantastic effort by the lads. With no Kyle Scott available today, Ben White, Sam Evans and Frazer start the game as subs, but with a "heavy" pitch they will be needed today. We kick the game off, and considering our lay off, the lads settle very quickly forcing Gainsborough backwards. Good work between Ryan and Jack F finishes with a good cross and an early Jack Mc Shot, which is just wide. Josh W is working hard on the left and links up well with Ian, Ian crosses the ball and again Jack Mc has a shot just wide. We win a free kick, Jack F takes the kick, the ball lands in the box, Curtis has a shot but it is well saved by the keeper. Gainsborough have an attack, but good covering by Oliver and Kyle ensures the danger is cleared. Ross is reading the games well and a well timed tackle and pass to Josh K ensures we put the pressure back on to Gainsborough. All the lads are playing well and in three separate attacks, Ian has a shot that comes off the post, then Ben hits the bar, and then Josh K hits the post again. We finally get our reward, a clever throw-in by Ross is crossed by Josh W and Ben is alert in the centre to score. 1.0. We continue to press and challenge for the remaining minutes of the first half, to take the advantage into the break. Second Half. The lads start the second half as they had finished the first and Ben scores within the first minute of the restart. 2.0. This goal sets the tone for the second half, Gainsborough look shocked, but our lads continue to chase the ball, win tackles and play some excellent passing football. With further shots by Jack Mc, Jack F, Sam, Ben and Ian we continue to be dominant. After good link up play involving Sam Josh K, Ben scores his third. 3.0. Gainsborough have the odd break, and when they do we seem to be more than alert to the danger, even Nathan who has barely had a thing to all game is alert to clear a dangerous through ball to safety. This is an excellent performance, Ryan is battling hard, Ian is chasing everything, Oliver is as strong as an ox, Sam is passing excellently, and the whole team is as one, a real pleasure for our loyal fans to see. We manage to score a fourth goal, again scored by our man of the match Ben, who has been excellent, all game. 4.0. The game ends, and the lads, Steve and me, and the parents are all delighted. Match Summary: what a performance, well done and credit to you all. Barrowby Hawks are in the last 8 of the county cup! 8th best in Lincolnshire? On that performance may be, just maybe. MOM: Ben White, excellent performance and 4 excellently taken goals. Ian's thought of the day, Football is a game with 22 players, 2 linesmen and has as many referees as supporters!! |
