In a game that we expected to win, confidence was low after a poor display against Gonerby last week. The braves started well with some good football being played, especially down the right with Ben Dudley and Frank Martell working well together. It was not long before it paid off with Ben recieving a pass from Frank and he ran thru beating a couple of defenders before driving the ball pass the keeper into the back of the net. Another good move down the right saw a cross that Alex Steadman latched onto running from midfield, and he calmly side footed it in the net to make it 2-0. All the new guys were doing well with Oliver King looking like a veteran at left back - Peter Hargrave had a goal disallowed for a very tight offside. Another move down the right led to Frank Martell driving home a third for the Braves.
After a corner that was neatly volleyed in by Dan Hutson it looked like the Braves were going to run away with it - a further 2 excellent finishes from new boy Kyle Harris and an absolute thunderbolt from Ben Dudley made it 6-0 at half time. The second half though was very different with the RedEarls coming back strongly and as time went on the Red Earls number 4 began to dominate the midfield scoring an excellent goal also. The braves went ahead 7-0 though before his goal and another good one for the Earls when Joe Tracey smacked one from out of the box over the keepers head into the net. Final score 7-2 and an excellent team performance with all the new players fitting in well. There were lots of contenders for MOM but new boy Oliver King and Alex Steadman were the managers choice for a joint award. |
